Signed by Bobby Ancell from Hibernian, Laird made his debut in a League Cup quarter-final tie with East Fife in September 1953.
He quickly established himself as Dunfermline`s first choice right back and was part of the promotion-winning side in 1954/55.
He retained his place in the Pars first two post-war seasons in Division One, before departing at the start of season 1957/58. He later played for Barrow and retied to live in Grimsby.
